At last! My Boy Mourinho Has some Respite with Chelsea in Champions League!
Can you cut a guy a break?
Mourinho has gone through something akin to a living nightmare this season. Losing games left right and center, with getting beat by Bournemouth being the daddy of them all. Going into this game against a team who had already beaten them, the signs were screaming that this would yet be another loss for Chelsea, and surely the final time we would see everyone's favorite Portuguese in the Chelsea dugout.
Thankfully, they did it. The first being a strange own goal, and then Chelsea's man of the season and someone who has to be given gold in repayment for the amount of times he has bailed out the club, Willian. This time, not a free kick but finishing off a very good move. It was Mission Accomplished and at least for the time being, Mourinho was able to smile a little. It would have been too much for him to suffer yet another loss and and not even advance through the groups.
I don't see this kickstarting Chelsea's season. There is a mystery that they are yet to unsolve in the Premiership and I expect them to continue their struggle. Yet again, Hazard has fired up a blank and the minutes that he's gone without scoring continue to mount up. Diego Costa does not look as lethal as he was last season, and nobody would argue why Fabregas was not picked to start the game. Problems still persist, and I don't know how Mourinho is going to solve them.
As far as the Champions League goes, I don't put Chelsea anywhere near the favorites club. I won't even give them the label of dark horses. If they manage to negotiate their second round game, I should be seeing them get totally pimped out by what will be a much better team that they will face. You can't be taken seriously if you're star player refuses to score goals, you have a clueless central midfielder and your striker is more of a thug than a finisher.
It would be amusing, if Chelsea are fighting for relegation in April next year, whilst getting ready to play a Champions League semi-final...
