It's Aguero or Bust for Man City
Where are all you people who claimed that Man City would run away with the title? Don't hide, please show yourselves. No? Good. Next time, listen to HH when I tell you that City under Pellegrini are not the kind of team to easily sweep through a league campaign. And they most definitely aren't doing it without the Argentine sniper.
As deep as City's squad are, if they get a few injuries to key players, they just aren't as good. Kompany is their defensive general, and their best defender. Without him, they don't have the same security and organisation at the back. Yaya Toure seems to have been waning, but he always has that run of three or four games where he is total deadly force. When he is at his best, City are at their best. Then his confidante, Silva, is the creative whizz-kid of the team. He's the one that weaves in and out of congestion within the center of the pitch, and sets up a lot of City's G's as well as score some.
But Sergio Kun Aguero is the main man for City. He's been one of the three best strikers in the world for the past three years, and he is beyond vital for City. Bony just hasn't clicked into that kind of gear he was at with Swansea, and has struggled to create chemistry with Sterling and De Bruyne. My man Kelechi is a youngster, and is learning every day, although he should really be given more chances than Bony who needs to be on the bench a lot longer. That then leaves Aguero, who has consistently been a menace to defenders in the Premiership.
When City are at their best, Aguero normally gets two or three goals, and is constantly peppering the hands of goalkeepers and is in the nightmares of whatever backline tries to stop him. For the times that City run into that brick wall, and things aren't going their way, Aguero seems to find a goal out of nowhere to get them back in the game. So he can do it when the roses are red, as well as when the thorn bushes start to prolong their gruesome claws. He is just a superb striker, and the only thing holding him back from being legend, is his inability to be just as good for Argentina. If he was, then we'd have to put him alongside guys like Batistuta, Ronaldo and Baggio.
If Aguero can find prolonged fitness, and stay sharp, the smart money would be on City winning the title. No other team have a striker as good or as consistent as him. And if you've got a good team, with an excellent finisher to be the icing on the cake, those are usually the ingredients for a league title. But without Aguero, that's where Arsenal and United can start beaming and having real hope of snatching the title. Some may still put cash down and lament about how talented City's squad is, even without Aguero. But you won't see me at the bookies betting on City without Aguero. Simple as.
