Liverpool are rolling, Newcastle are smoking...CRAP

Perhaps Newcastle are not yet done with Division 1 and are desperate to get back. The way they have been playing, it would take two miracles and some intervention by Zeus himself in order to save them from relegation. They have been that bad.

Going up against Liverpool is the worst kind of fixture they would hope for. They need an Aston Villa or Norwich or even my favorite team, Scunthorpe to instill that confidence back into this team. Liverpool have a new manager, a new energy to their team and feel replenished. They are a team on the up whilst Newcastle just continue to plunge into obscurity. You can see it on Big Al's face on Match of the Day in how disgusted he is with his team. He knows that if there isn't a drastic 180 degree change, this could get really bad.

Liverpool are doing better than I thought. I felt it would take some time for Klopp to get them playing the way he would like them to, but it's started much sooner. The results are coming along with Klopp's style of play. They aren't there yet, but the players are on the right path. With them already in people's minds to be top four before Klopp has had a chance to dip into the market, shows just how good of a job he is doing...so far.

For this encounter tomorrow, I expect Liverpool to pick up the full points. Newcastle are hopeless both home and away. If Liverpool start well, play with high intensity and don't allow Newcastle to settle, then this game will be over quickly. Newcastle may get the first goal, but I would put money in finding a way back into the game, but if the opposite happens and it's the dudes in black and white who have to chase the game, they just don't have the fight to. Their heads are gone and the spirit isn't there. It's similar to the Chelsea situation where I'm afraid the only way to change the results is by changing the manager.

When I say that, this doesn't exonerate the players from blame. This is merely trying to find a solution. But my goodness, for the amount that these players get paid, you should never ever hear anything about not enough effort being given. That's the least you expect and something you ought to do in every match if you are fully fit. I'm sure McClaren is doing his best, but if it isn't working, you just need to accept the truth and try and work out a solution to the problem. Firing all the players is not the practical thing to do, but getting a new manager who can whip these guys into shape may help, but it's no guarantee.

I'm not sure about Liverpool's top four chances. Sturridge needs to play a lot more games, Coutinho is vital, Mignolet needs to remember what the rules are of the game and there needs to be two or three more purchases in January. They have a good chance, but I'm leaning more towards Tottenham to break into that top four if Chelsea aren't able to make up the ground. But we are in the game of football, and the Premiership. Anything can happen and this had already been a very shocking season thanks to Mourinho's exploits. Who know how the story will end?
