My Boy aka Mourinho....has been Sacked
Perhaps the least surprising news of the year. But now it's official. Even though I and everyone else with a brain saw this coming, it's still a sad day for me. My Boy, my piece of football entertainment, my "idol", has been shown the exit. Two things now remain in the aftermath.
Why did it take so long, and what really was the cause of this disarray?
I said that My Boy should have been sacked after the Liverpool game. It was billed as the so-called "Must-win" game, and Chelsea came up short and lost. I was positive that Abramovich would have pulled the plug. So once he surivived I began to wonder. Had the tough decision-making Russian Billionaire grown soft? Was the Roman finally playing the good guy? Perhaps he'd paid a visit to the Dalai Lama?
Whatever happy juice Abramovich was drinking, Mourinho kept his job. The losses continued to mount up, the performances didn't improve, but there the axe hung high over Jose's head, but it refused to drop down. Then came what had to be the last straw. Another home game against Bournemouth, who are debutants in the Premiership with a stadium about as big as a drunkard's back garden. Surely, this was the victory Chelsea were looking for as well as that performance to return them back to winning ways.
Surely?
Nope. Another loss and the lowest point that Chelsea had reached in a season with a a lovely circus of disappointments. But to my complete and utter bemusement, Abramovich did not go for the sack. Now I knew something was up. For him not to get fired straight away after losing at home to Bournemouth was just incredible. This is where theories of there being a clause in Mourinho's contract started to prop up. Maybe Abramovich had to fork out a Bill just to get rid his Portuguese friend. So he was biding his time until he could work something out.
Then came the news today that he's been sacked. So then, that is why I am at a loss. Why would he get sacked now and not all those months now? Why did this loss affect Abramovich more than the Bournemouth one? After all, they lost against a side who now sit top of the league, two points clear of Arsenal. So what prompted Abrambovich to act now?
I don't know, and I hope that one day Abramovich can tell me why he kept the faith uncharacteristically with Jose.
The second point I want to look out is to find out just what went wrong. How Chelsea disintegrated just months after looking so powerful in the Premiership is a mystery that even the great writers will marvel at. There's a story that's waiting to be told. A tale of a breakdown in communication between manager and player. A saga that includes a doctor, a handlful of bricks and a superstar who obtained an allergy against scoring goals.
With Mourinho now no longer part of the Chelsea instiution, he is free to really tell all. He hinted at how the players gave up on him in his last interview, but because he had to be professional, he couldn't go into detail.
Now though, it's all changed. He can finally reveal what happened behind closed doors. And I hope that he shames the players who revolted against him, and didn't try as hard as Willian or Azpilicueta. Because this wasn't a unaninmous revolt. Some players looked like they didn't want to spill blood for ther manager who was under pressure whilst others squeezed every ounce of energy to get whatever they could from the match.
He's gone, HH; he is gone.
That's the reality that I have to deal with. It's no longer speculated or talked about, but it's official. Mourinho will no longer take interviews as a Chelsea manager. I hope that he remains in the Premiership, and he could actually make a dramatic turnaround as United's manager if Van Gaal is forced out. That would be funny because of how he wanted to take over Ferguson initially. But to get the job in this roundabout way would be pretty amusing.
As for Chelsea, I do expect them to be different and play better as that's what a new manager can bring. You need only to look at Monchengladbach for the effects of a new coach. They can bring in a fresh atmosphere and refresh the plagued minds of the players who have been underperforming.
What would be hilarious, is if they continue to lose games even with a new coach that brings totally different ideas to Mourinho...
