No Striker, No Cigar as Mourinho Learned Against Crystal Palace
Ha. Just had to laugh again at the picture above. But the non-existence of a striker that Mourinho can depend upon is why Chelsea may end up just about losing their title to City...or maybe even Crystal Palace.
To win the league, you NEED a damn striker. You just do. No matter how amazing your defense is, or how amazing Hazard is...without that dependable Drogba to GET THAT GOAL in a tough away game like Crystal Palace, you WILL struggle. And my dear Jose has done his best to paper over that crack, and has had to dig deep into his coaching and managerial book, but there are just some matches that just require components that NO manager can come up with.
IF Chelsea had a striker, this could have easily been a match they could have turned around. YOU CAN'T KEEP RELYING ON HAZARD TO BAIL YOU OUT. His function is an attacking midfielder and NOT a striker. The SOLE purpose of a striker that I hire is to score goals...nothing more, nothing less. Eto'o has sort of been coming into that form, but has not been prolific enough. Have you seen what Sturridge and the Cannibal have been doing at Liverpool? THAT is what most championship winning teams need. Cristiano, Messi, Ibra...Bayern are the only ones that don't fall in that category because EVERYONE in that damn team can score. Despite that anomaly, if you don't have someone that can get at least twenty goals...then you can go home and say bye-bye....
Chelsea can still win the league. I shall believe in Mourinho until the last day. Somehow, someway, Mourinho can find a way...and something can still happen till the end of the season, and just don't count out my boy just yet....
