ROSSI CLAIMS HE IS IN FACT....FIT AND READY TO ROLL!!!! WAS PRANDELLI RIGHT TO DROP HIM?
Well....the plot has thickened here people. At first, I and am sure many Italian fans and general football fans were PISSED that such a good player who unjustly ruled out of the World Cup by Prandelli. But then at closer look and investigation, it looked like Prandelli did not think Rossi was going FULL-ON in fear of getting injured again. You really don't want a play who is not going to give his all for the cause. So that was understandable. However, from Rossi's Twitter account, he has said that talk of him not being committed in fear of further damage to his knee is nonsense.
I think more needs to be known about this. There needs to be further dialogue between Rossi and Prandelli. It really seems as if there was no discussion before this tough decision was made. I am sure Rossi would have fought his case to say that he can go right into contact and be totally committed.
Prandelli needs to think long and hard about this decision. Because Rossi is one of Italy's best players and can form a GREAT partnership with Balotelli. I was assuming Immobile would be a backup, with Insigne adding depth to the Italian midfield as an attacking-midfielder. I swear, if Prandelli chose AQUILANI over Rossi then someone needs to get an early sacking effective immediately.
The point is this, if Prandelli dropped Rossi for this reason, then surely he should have told Rossi that "I need to see you go IN FULLY." Then Rossi would have done so, but still keeping in mind that this is a friendly.
I watched the Ireland game, and Rossi was one of the best players on the pitch. Even the Irish commentators commented on how good he looked with his clever touches. It was Immobile that seemed to find it harder playing in his first full cap.
The point that Rossi made is actually a very good one. It's about being smart. You don't need to get involved in a tussle with defenders if you are clever enough. Smart players can avoid contact and STILL be effective for their team. That is why playing Rossi just behind Balotelli gives him that space and range to really do damage without being succumbed by the defenders coming at him.
You can only judge by what you see. And I can't just believe Prandelli, based off that Ireland match we all saw...would pick AQUILANI, who looked useless again over Rossi who looked pretty sharp and into it...and would expect would only grow as the tournament carried on.
