Copa America is Almost Here. James, Alexis...or Neymar?

This is the best quality football tournament just behind the World Cup. Not my view or opinion, just a cold hard fact. Greats like Maradona, Ronaldo, Romario, Batistuta, Caniggia, Asprilla, Solano and so forth have graced this cup. And its now time for new legends to take centre stage, to get their paws on what should be a pretty open tournament.

There are three teams which are in the mix for this cup, and some of y'all may be surprised that it does not include Argentina. Yes, you heard that right, Argentina are not my favorites to win it. The three cats that I have picked are the hosts with an outside chance, and mainly Brazil and Colombia who are the two that are in the strongest positions.

Brazil, it's simple and personally, quite sad. South American teams have always struggled against defensive teams. Because they are so flamboyant and attacking, they always get caught out by the counter. Brazil with Neymar, Tardelli and Firmino will be the most dangerous counter attacking team at the tournament. And with Dunga putting emphasis on defending and closing off spaces, this will make it hard for the attacking teams to break them down. Only guys like Uruguay will be a bit different for Brazil as they are also a very defensive team.

Colombia are that team on the rise, with young dudes looking to break the monopoly of Brazil and Flopentina....sorry, Argentina.
They were very impressive in that World Cup, and with James, Bacca and Cuadrado, they will bring that flair and excitement. Their only hindrance is if they can beat the more experienced Brazil or Uruguay. That has to come from learning the ruthless know-how of winning a tight game and Pekerman, blending flair with tactical discipline and execution at critical times.

Then we have the hosts. Lead by my guy Sanchez, they will be dangerous. Hosts are always a team to watch for, especially when they are good. The only thing that makes them outsiders is the lack of a strong overall team. Brazil and Colombia have better overall quality than Chile, but not by a huge amount. You also have the host factor that can be a yin and yang. With the crowd behind you, your game raises up and you play with far more intensity. But, there is that pressure which got the better of Brazil who should have been knocked out by Chile in the World Cup.

Uruguay will go as far as Cavani does, and if he decides to actually put the ball in the net. Mexico, it's who they have in their team and with the others being there to give good games, which they will, all that is left is whether the alleged best player in the world decides to show up. If he does, and brings his Barcelona performance, it could be a wrap....but I won't bet my hard earned cash on that happening.
