Sugar me twice and call me the Count of Monte GAT DAYUM!
Not only did Lewandowski offer reincarnation to Wolfsburg; but he did so all in the space of NINE minutes. Think about that. One man scored FIVE G's in nine minutes. That isn't incredible, or insane, or out of this world. Quite frankly, it's stupid, and very scary and just strange.
Wolfsburg actually had Bayern where they wanted them at halftime. They defended well, with great positioning and had studied Bayern's passing movements and gave players no space. Without a natural striker, Naldo and Dnate were able to contain Muller who had to occupy that area. The German goalscoring supremo is usually very evasive, but with Bayern not able to play any penetrating balls, he was unable to get into any dangerous areas. It was tactical bliss for Hecking.
Nobody in the entire world could have foreseen what Lewandowski did. To score a hat-trick in nine minutes is an incredible feat. You can maybe name three or four players in the past ten years who have scored three goals in the space of nine minutes. That's how rare such a thing is. For one man to score FIVE in that same space of time leaves me speechless. There's nothing to say. It's a freak occurrence and something that we may never see again on at this professional level again in our lifetime.
My surprise is the same as everyone. Even for the greatest player in the world, it's still a superhuman thing to do. But Lewandowski's ability has always been there. Him doing this just shows why he is the most complete striker in the world. Apart from actually being technically gifted, he's got that insatiable hunger for goals like a vampire who's been starved for blood. That single-mindedness has grown even more since leaving Dortmund and now he's developing into that Weah/Batisttuta-esque striker with a bit of
Fear Bayern. Fear the squad. Gotze was finally looking like that superstar we all hoped he would be, Vidal is settling into the team and once Douglas Costa again showing what a terror he can be. If Pep can make Bayern play at a higher intensity, with more speed and be more direct with a sharp killer-instinct for goals, they will be a very difficult team to stop. If all are fit, they will be a really hard team to beat....just as long as Pep can take Lewandowski and co off the hinges and allow them to express themselves.
