Mancini is going Old-Skool with his POWERFUL Inter Milan
I refuse to cave in and admit that Mancini is a great coach who deserves praise for the titles he won. Those were achieved under fortuitous circumstances and I will stand by that. But what he is doing with an Inter team that have been in the darkness for years must be commended. In a team without the great talents he had at City and in his first period with Inter; he has built a powerful force focused on winning games rather than looking flashy.
When you look at the players that Mancini bought, there was no real big purchase. Milan actually bought two really good players with Bacca and Adriano, but I'm afraid Inter were smarter. They improved the defense with getting Miranda and the core of the team being the midfield was improved with Kondogbia and Melo. Both players won't perform the Zidane pirouette any time soon but what they add is muscle and a resolute base that is a building block to getting victories. It's very old-skool indeed.
Having that base to control a match through the midfield with two great ball-winners who also have the stamina to battle through ninety minutes, it benefits Jovetic and Icardi who can focus on staying high up on the pitch and picking off any through balls from the runs they make. That is what Inter have shown in all their victories. No Michael Jackson moonwalks or Prince spins, just good old hustling and grinding out results by getting the goals when needed and coming away with the three points. And who can argue with that? After all, are we not in the winning business?
Looking at the current climate of the Serie A, there is a very good chance for Inter to win it. Juventus just don't look as powerful as last year, Roma still don't convince me as winners yet and the other teams don't have the quality that is needed to sustain the consistency of an entire season. That doesn't then mean that Inter are clear favorites, just that there is good chance. They haven't been tearing teams apart and haven't actually had a truly commanding amazing performance. So if the goals dry up or either Icardi or Jovetic go down injured, can they rely on their midfielders or Palacio to supply the required G's?
I will say this. If Mancini manages to lead Inter to victory with this team; it would still be on one hand be another fortuitous victory BUT I would give him a lot more credit than his other wins. I am seeing far more management involved rather than just amazing players winning the games for him. I think this will be a far closer Serie A than many believe, so it would be a true triumph if Inter are scudetto winners by the end of it all.
