It Would Be Miraculous if Simeone Lead Atletico to Another La Liga

It isn't the multi millionaires who play in white that are keeping up with Barcelona in search for that title. But it's their rivals Atletico Madrid who are now level on points with the Barca boys. It's very early to say and things can change, but with how consistent Atletico have been both in Spain and Europe, one must at least beg the question as to whether or not they can last the distance.

When they lost Diego Costa, who was so important for them, I didn't think they would recover. Then you had Arda Turan, one of the most underrated footballers in the world and the brains of their midfield who decided to join Barcelona. It seemed that any kind of threat they would have to the big two was now gone. But Simeone has shown again why he is one of the best coaches in the world as he manages to squeeze water from stone.

This time, they have a new star, and he's from France with the whiff of blonde. Griezmann just keeps getting better with each season, and now he has already taken hold of the team and is leading them through.

In tight matches he's coming up with important goals and he's cemented himself as the team's star player. However, around him is still that hard work ethic that gave them the La Liga title.

If Griezmann is the star, then Godin is it's core. Atletico don't concede many goals, and that is due to the amazing defensive work that the Uruguyan does. Simeone himself was more of robust tough tackling midfielder in his day, and you can see how that is his focus. But, they are less aggressive these days in the way that they play and are playing some nice football. Again, this is Simeone assessing the players that he has and moulding a strategy based on their strengths.

I don't think they can pip Barcelona to the title, whilst their neighbours have some cleaning up to do. But this is football, and no one really thought they would win it all those years ago. If they can keep with the consistency, and make sure they win if Barcelona slip up, then mathematics will be their friend. They don't need to beat Barcelona twice to win the league, they just need to get more points than them against other teams.

Consistency is the name of the game, and at the moment, Simeone and his boys are doing very well at that game.
