Too Much has Changed for Ribery to Make an Impact

It feels like it's been three centuries since Ribery graced a football pitch. In that time, Bayern have become an unstoppable force in the Bundesliga and have consistently been among the top three club teams in Europe. There has never really been a moment where they have missed the French winger, so for him making his comeback from injury, I just don't know where he would fit into this team.

Back when Ribery was at his best under Heynckes, Gotze had been signed but was not able to play until the need for someone like Ribery because nobody else in the team could work the flank as well as he could. Even as great as Robben is, Ribery actually plays as a winger and provided many key assists that made Bayern the unbeatable force. So you see kids, being a selfish bastard isn't always good.
There was no Thiago, no Lewandowski, no Costa.

All that's changed now, hombre.

Douglas Costa is the best purchase of the season. Considering how much he was bought for and what he's been providing for Bayern, it's like being given a 100" television for the price of crisps and a milkshake.  You also have the German sensation (still waiting for him to live up to the name fully) Gotze who can also work that wing if Costa is out injured. There is no longer that same yearning for someone of Ribery's ability. Bayern have got things covered and they are demolishing teams at an even more sinister rate as they did when the French winger was about.

Did I mention age? No? Okay...let's talk age.

Ribery is very well into his thirties. Soon that beer belly will show, the veins will become more pronounced and he'll need two walking sticks before he takes tot he field. You won't be seeing the amazing two-footed wizard that we saw back a few years ago. Especially when you think of just how long away he's been from the game, that just adds to the realization that Ribery won't be the same player anymore. And can I kindly remind you all that Douglas Costa is literally ripping the Bundesliga into shreds?

I want to see him back. I can safely say I won't be proven wrong and I won't bet any cash on it because I don't have any. But let him have a good final goodbye to Bayern, because he deserves a fitting farewell with balloons and a few strippers. As for fitting into Pep's team that he hopes will finally claim the Champions League cookie that they've been looking to get for so long, there's about as much chance as that happening as a pyramid miraculously growing out of your back garden.
