Payet and Bilic can make West Ham do Great Things This Season
Tis the season where everyone beats everyone. No Ferguson. No Mourinho (the one who had stars and not bricks in his team). It's been a very different season, and West Ham can get in on the fun and surprise people even more than they already have.
It was a close(ish) game that they had with Liverpool, but overall, West Ham deserved to win. They created the better chances, played the better football, and had more clinical finishers in their team. Again, it showed what kind of manager Bilic is, as he is getting a bunch of average to good players, with one talent, coming together to display some of the best football I've seen from these cats in a very long time. They probably haven't looked this good since Di Canio was knocking about.
I've always believed that with any team you manage, if you get them playing the beautiful game the right way, then that can go a long way. Bilic has brought his great work with Croatia to the eastern streets of London. The ball is kept on the ground, good runs are being made, and there is a systematic and organized way in which West Ham are looking to get goals.
But it all starts with hard work.
If West Ham did not put in as much of a grind as they did, they would be mid-table at the most. As good as their football is, everyone on this team works like a damn drug-infused rabbit. The attackers get back to tackle, and when they are in possession, there are runs constantly from everyone. Just by the very fact that a dude who made a tackle at one end, went down the other to score the opening goal, gives you an insight into the work-ethic that the Bilic has brought into the team.
Payet.
You can work hard, and put in three hundred good shifts, but this sport will only reward true quality. You take Mahrez out of the Leicester team and despite all their hard work, they would be irrelevant. Payet is that kind of influential figure for West Ham. He's the thinking man's footballer. Always looking to make the right pass, and aware of his teammates. He's easily the standout player for West Ham, and if he can be kept as fresh as six daisies from now till the end of the season, West Ham can surprise people.
It's been a crazy season. Nobody wants to be consistent, and no one wants to be convincing in their victories. If West Ham can keep doing what they do, get that work ethic that Collins displayed at the back and can get Payet running their games both at home and away, they're going to have to be a team that others will watch.
