Sneijder May Be Ready for One Final Hurrah for Holland after Galatasary Golden Goal
You never lose it. You just don't. Once you have IT, that element never goes. The only problem is when it goes missing, trying to find it again. Sneijder is still one of the best creative midfielders there are and one of the best players that operates in that crucial hole between midfield and attack. Under Mourinho, he was the best in the world in that role. After the Benitez reign and moving to Turkey, it seemed another good player was heading to decline. BUT, after a SHOCK goal to knock out mighty Juventus, Sneijder has a good chance to show the world he ain't done...just yet.
Wesley was very EASILY at his best when under the great Mourinho. In Jose's counter attacking system, Sneijder was the jewel. He was required to unleash the key balls to Eto'o or Milito and provide the assists. It was with those assists that helped Inter conquer it all and win EVERYTHING.
Sneijder was really the best at that position. His size, footballing brain and the ease at which he could change direction and pop off a pass was his trademark. For the life of me, I just could not understand how Benitez overlooked him, as well as the other successors at Inter. Sneijder is a player that you NEVER sell. His skill is not predicated on youth or speed. It is pure football and about using your brain...hence why it is something that is just never ever lost.
In this World Cup year and Holland being drawn in a VERY tough group, Van Gaal will need his best men. For now, Sneijder has been in and out of the team and his place has not been made certain. This has definitely been due to his move to Turkey with Van Gaal placing more emphasis on the other Dutch players hustling it out in the Premiership, Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga.
With Galatasaray now in the next stage and Sneijder scoring that very good goal, Van Gaal will now need to wake up, wipe the whipped cream from his double chin and see what his countryman can do. Regardless, I think Sneijder must be in that squad as Holland will NEED him against Chile, Australia and Spain. But, if Sneijder can really amp his game up when they face whoever in the next round, and put up a great performance then that will go a super long way in convincing Van Gaal to give him a deeper look. Louis must realize that if Holland are to do anything, they will need a creative player to make the most out of Robben and Van Persie. Sneijder ain't done yet and we may hopefully be seeing a resurgence in his career and an opportunity to perhaps finish off a job he never got done in 2010 in South Africa.
