Is Lewandowski Actually a Striker or the Modern "Striker"?

From the forum, there was an interesting debate that circled around whether the Pole was a hit or miss for Bayern. Because this was the replacement to ZUKIC. And he just has not been as effective so far like he was for Dortmund.

But is Pep using him in the right way?

Lewandowski is not someone who  I can classify as a STRIKER in the George Weah or Batistutat sense. But he is what I call the modern striker who has more touches on the ball and is involved more in the team-play than strikers normally should.

When you think of how Pep plays, the possession and how he likes strikers to be involved in the game, you would think that he would be a PERFECT fit like a glove fit for the team. A player in the very mould of Pep's new and cool tactical "evolution" (I have issues with that!)

But I think that you have to look at the players that Bayern have, which are NOT the same as Dortmund. Also, when you see how they attack, the ball moves a lot quicker in Dortmund as opposed to Bayern were it's a lot slower and measured. So this means that Lewandowski has to get used to a much slower build-up, and is having to readjust his game to a different tactical approach and different players.

Robben is not Reus or Gundogan or Kagawa. He will HOG that ball and will not always look for the pass and run of Lewandowski. Robbie L could always rely on Reus and others giving him those one-twos and passing the ball quickly into the box and ALWAYS forward. It's just not the same where there are more players willing to run with the ball and they take their time before releasing the ball.

In short, I am not too sure whether Lewandowski will work overall for Bayern. I never knew why Zukic was sold because he was a perfect point-man who has different qualities to Lewandowski which are far better suited to the players at Bayern. Mario does not need that many touches, he is happy to wait for his time and finish off like a true striker. Lewandowski on the other hand though does not have that anticipation level of Zukic, but likes to move around more and be involved in the game. Hence, the rise of the modern striker that I personally have no time for, but it seems to be a change in how forwards are groomed.

I've said it before...as a striker, your FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT JOB IS TO SCORE GOALS.

Everything else is just a sideshow.
