Was Messi THAT Good or City were Hopeless?

Okay, my twitter has been invaded by every superlative you can think of, putting Messi as a genius and saviour of mankind.

The boy was good....but I feel the need to mention Middlesborough and Burnley.

To do what Messi did with any kind of player is nothing to sneeze and boogie at. Nutmegs, dribbles, through balls, domination. But to just deny the opposition they are playing and the Chilean engineer that is their "manager" will deny y'all from being told the full story.

Again, Messi must be given his props and the dude has been rejuvenated. But as many teams would know, if a team has the best player in the world...you must therefore employ a tactic for nullifying him. That should be the FIRST thing you think of. Same with Bayern. If my team is playing them, the first thing I am thinking of is how to take Robben out of the game and render him ineffective.

There really is no shame in man-marking one of the best players in the world. There's no shame in flirting with the boundaries with cheap fouls and trickery to deny him having any flow. Because at this level of the game, all that matters is winning. And doing it at all costs. But my good friend Pellegrini just went ahead and tried to play Barcelona at their own game and gave them space big enough to fit two planets.

So let's pause and take stock. Yes, Messi deserves the praise but there ought to be an asterisk shoved in there as well. A team giving so much space and offering ZERO defensive ideas will get ripped open and cooked. That is why I'm not going to get on the Messi is the greatest bandwagon and instead applaud him and just shake my head at the disgrace City put out as PREMIERSHIP CHAMPIONS.
