Fiorentina and Montella bringing attacking flair to Serie A (written before Juve Lubrication)

Well, as I have said before, the Serie A is known as the defensive league. It's a neighbourhood where you don't just score hat-tricks in your sleep, and the community of those who have attained thirty G's is very very small indeed.

But Fiorentina are a team doing things a bit differently, and unlike Roma with their no-striker clownish selves, the Viola are a very entertaining team to watch when they are on their game. And in the Juve dominated league, it's refreshing to see it.

Probably one of the shrewdest acquisitions has to be my pharaoh brother, Salah. A Chelsea reject and now one of THE stars of the Serie A. And it's his presence that has given Fiorentina a positive attacking edge that I like. Because I am all for players forcing the issue and constantly trying to work for an opening.

And Salah is showing that perhaps Jose needed to give him more of a chance.

But this is also a team with Mario Gomez AND Rossi, two very talented players but in a different sense, and that is what I like. On one hand, when he decides to NOT be injured, Rossi can bob and weave and cut through tight spaces whilst Gomez is your classic target man who can always get in the box for a cross and has the height to be effective.

Got my eyes on what they do in the UEFA cup because with the teams remaining, they have a really good chance of winning, because they are one of the best teams that are still left up in there. But as good as they may be going forward, Montella has to also maintain that old-skool and be careful with the defence as well.

They may not get that top three as Lazio and Roma just look to have honed in and should secure those, but winning the UEFA Cup now actually counts for something. If Rossi can come back as well and Salah can keep playing with the confidence that he already has, keep those eyes open....because the Rentina boys have not been relevant since the Batigol days and their reputation of racism...which I think they still haven't fully shaken off.

But if they can be known purely for football and end the season well, hopefully it can be something to build upon with some defenders and tough midfielders and go for the big one next season....that Scudetto!

PS....this was written before the 3-0 reconstruction by Juventus.
