Can we sack Garcia now after that Sampdoria Loss?
"The more things change, the more they stay the same."
This quote applies perfectly to Roma coach, Garcia. He had all of us hoodwinked, bamboozled, tricked. Here I was praising him, and popping open the five year old wine bottle when he bought Dzeko. Rejoice, Garcia had realized he wasn't Barcelona and could not play a false nine. Dzeko would come in, they would have a striker to add some thrust to their play.
Nope.
It's still the same old rubbish that I've been complaining about for so long. The wear and tear my fingers have gone through ranting about Garcia's lack of a tactical spectrum is more than enough reason to file a lawsuit. Here I am again, having to call for Garcia's removal because this man just isn't pushing Roma forward, and is happy to keep spinning around that really expensive and respected Ferris Wheel for eternity it seems.
Sampdoria are a good team. They are a great reason as to why Serie A is a league to watch just because of how close the competition is now. Apart from me always having a fondness for their kit because of my affinity to blue, they are team that punch, kick and scratch above their weight. If this was a fixture from years ago, Sampdoria would have shown Roma too much respect. Sitting back, allowing Roma to have the ball and pouncing back with a sneaky counter. Things change, and it all starts with their star player, Eder.
You can see the Brazlian in him in how adept his control is, with his low center of gravity and cunning with the ball. When you see how he put away his free-kick, that will be a great asset for Sampdoria this season. Having a footballer who can come up with the goods when needed, is how you get in the top six and there is no harm in even aiming higher than that. If Sampdoria can keep working hard as a team and get the best out of Eder by employing a quick passing game when they attack so that he burst free between defenders, this is a club to watch out for.
Back to Garcia. I just don't understand them. So much talent, so many gifted football players but the manner in which they go about winning a match is rather inept and naive. It's one of my great annoyances of modern football; the influx of midfielders. That is where you get too many passes and an insistence on trying to score the perfect goal. Against good defending, which is what Sampdoria were able to do, there is no end product. Having Dzeko all by himself without a strike partner adds to that because the Serbian now needs put on his hiking boots and venture to the lands of the midfield just to give the ball a nice greeting.
Juventus may not win the Scudetto this year, but neither will Roma if they keep playing like this. They should finish in the top four, but as far as winning the title, you need to actually go out and win games. The way in which you set out your team has to be about getting goals, and sometimes the simple direct route is the best method for doing this. Garcia just refuses to let go off his lust for passing which will again leave Roma as the nearly-men.
Sack him.
