Douglas Costa Can be HUGE for Brazil. One Problem: The Blonde Dude in the Dugout
What Douglas Costa has been doing for Bayern has been simply incredible. Bayern are simply unstoppable right now and Costa is right at the center of that. So you would assume that if he plays anywhere near to his Bayern flow, then it would be a huge helping hand to Brazil...who can't simply put all the pressure of getting goals on Neymar.
One problem though, Costa is not playing for Pep....but for Dunga, who has a deep love affair with parking fifty buses and a nuke.
A player can only be as good as the system that he plays in. They cannot go out and do their own thing if their manager does not allow it. So the Costa that you see in Bayern where he is playing with a team that are very attacking and have several players in the final third, is very different from a team that plays purely on the counter and whose focus is not conceding rather than going out to outscore the opposition from the kick-off.
I have already voiced my disapproval of Dunga and I think he is the complete opposite of what Brazil need right now to move on from the 7-1 lubrication. Where Costa is concerned, he is a player who flourishes in an attacking team that has several players running into the penalty area. When you see the kinds of things he tries in matches, he's got that proper Brazilian flair that is what samba football is about. I could very much see him being in the squad during the three R's era. But these are the Dunga dark ages, where samba football is now a no-no. This is not to say that Costa will be totally ineffective, because he will still be a key player, but you just won't see the superb winger that we do in Bayern.
My wish would be for Dunga to get the hell out of the manger's chair. Get a coach who appreciates the Brazilian flair, and to see how Neymar, Lucas, Coutinho and Costa can all combine together to play some dynamic attacking football and have that attacking thrust that we know only the Brazilians can do. That would be my wish, but I am a realist and we're stuck with the clown known as Dunga and Costa will be chained down and won't be the unleashed firecracker that we know he can be.
Please....sack Dunga.
