Lewandowski and Robben are Both Selfish Bastards...and this IS a Good Thing

"Greed is good"

Gordon Gecko, Wall Street.

Sometimes, what is perceived as a bad trait in society, is actually rather positive in a certain scenario. It's not good to be greedy or selfish. We ought to aim to try and think of others rather than only focusing on ourselves. If we were all self-centered, a lot of of people would be left to die rather than be helped by others.

But...

When we talk about the sport of football, we must first recognize that this is a team sport. It would be stupid if every single player tried to dribble at every given opportunity. That's nursery football which is complete madness. But there also need to be a balance between that team play and individuality because sometimes in a tight match between two teams evenly matched, it takes that solitary performance to inspire a victory. That is where the mentality of Lewandowski and Robben come in.

If there is one man on our planet who wasn't pleased at the return of Robben, it would be Lewandowski. The reason is very simple and understandable. Robben does not pass. Unless he has to, he won't. He throws the middle finger at everything it means to be a winger. I can't remember the last time he headed down the wing and crossed it for his teammate to score. That's just not his game. Robben is thinking about dribbling or scoring first before passing the ball, which he does so begrudgingly.

Lewandowski is the same as well. He is a striker, and he was brought in to score goals. By nature, he has to be selfish with his main focus on scoring goals. I've not been a big fan of how the game has turned would-be strikers into false-nines and attacking midfielders. There is far too much giving and not enough taking from players who call themselves strikers. Weah and Batistuta would be appalled by the current state of affairs. Now though, ever since leaving Dortmund where the game plan was different and going on that crazy scoring run, Lewandowski has now become more focused on himself and scoring as many goals in a game as he possibly can. Mind you, this great run which included five G's in a match and being put as the best striker in the world, all came when Robben was injured.

It makes sense. Costa is the best winger in the world right now without a doubt. He runs the wing superbly, and his first thought is to always try and cross the ball, to provide service for Lewandowski. Without Robben in the side, it's meant Lewandowski has been receiving the ball a lot more and has therefore been able to be involved in more chances which he has put away mostly. Robben being around, that does not happen. He won't get the ball so easily from Robben, and the Dutch assassin wants to get his own goals just as much as he does.

But this is a great problem to have. Especially when it comes to them having to face Madrid, PSG or Barcelona, focusing solely on team play just won't cut it. They need that variation. Sometimes playing the right pass will work, whilst other times you need someone to step up and make that dribble or take that shot. That is where heroes rise, and Champions Leagues are won. In Lewandowski and Robben, Bayern have game-changers. Two players who can score from anywhere, and have that hunger and desire to rip open that net. Because at the end of the day, it's whether you get it done, not how you get it done.

Greed IS good where Lewandowski and Robben are concerned.
