Conte and Chelsea is an Odd Marriage
I don't understand this move. Conte, who has yet to take Italy into a major tournament, going to England and Chelsea, doesn't make sense to me. I understand Chelsea are looking for a new manager, and I even don't know why they are on a search when their current one is doing just fine, but I'm not sure Conte is the kind manager to bring the sexy back into Chelsea.
Abramovich and his advisers are probably looking at the success Conte had with Juventus with the consecutive league wins, and how similar his philosophy is to Mourinho who despite the recent stint, is easily Chelsea's most successful manager. So Abramovich wants to bring back that old Mourinho to Chelsea which he feels will result in them taking back the Premier League.
Conte may have been successful at Juventus, but you've got to look at how good their competition was. Juventus were far superior to everyone else and were fortunate that they had the Milan giants and Roma going through their toughest period as they were trying to rebuild. The Premiership is a whole other nugget. It's a lot tougher, with almost every player coming into the league stating that it's the most competitive league in the world where every match is tough.
But what about Hiddink?
Hiddink has done an amazing job to totally turn around a team who were staring down at relegation to being seven points off the top six. That's all down to Hiddink who has revitalized the team and has Chelsea playing good football and winning games. Surely that's what any chairman wishes for. So I don't even know why they are going for Conte when they have the right coach here. Unless he doesn't want to, but even then, don't think Conte is the right manager. HH
