Should Harry Kane Already Be Hailed as World Class?
It was a good goal. A very good goal. Away from home, against the world champions. It was also a really good performance and Kane has put himself on notice that he could be a player to watch if he is fit this summer for the tournament. But can we please at least be real and objective here?
This was a friendly game, that although played in a competitive manner, was not for any kind of trophy. Germany have been known to not do so well both in friendlies and qualifiers. So for England to now take this performance to mean that they will now be a force this summer and Kane is world class and will be among the best strikers at the tournament is sprinting before they can crawl.
For me personally, I don't care much for friendlies. All it's there for is to see how your team looks and what new players can come in. Just like with France beating a very weak Dutch team, all I took from it was how useful Payet will be for them. So in this game, it showed that Hodgson could have a very interesting attack on his hands.
The thing though is the English love to blow things out of proportion. They will view this as being a competitive victory, even though Germany just see it as a blessing in disguise as they can iron out their issues before the real party starts. The worst thing is for Kane to now be proclaimed the saviour of the world all because of his very good goal, against a German defense that has a lot of fixing and was without Boateng, arguably the best central defender in the world.
But Kane is a very good striker and much better than Rooney. Without a doubt, he should start alongside Sturridge and I think they could form a very dangerous partnership and could be an outside threat in a very open Euros this summer. I just think it's important that Kane keeps his feet grounded and does the work on the pitch. The media already pumping him up won't help matters. Until he goes to the Euros this summer and proves his worth on the big stage, we can't call him world class or put him in the same sentence as Benzema, the Cannibal Suarez and Aguero. HH
