Dunga Continues to Regress Brazilian Football
How sad is it that Dunga is still the manager of Brazil? Must be the most depressing thing I've experienced recently. It's painful having to watch Brazil under this clown, and if I did not have to analyze, I would refuse to watch them as long as Dunga is manager.
This isn't about injuries. That's a dumb excuse. We're not talking about Macedonia or Malaysia. This is Brazil; the most sucessful football nation in history. They should never under any circumstance be playing such nonsense football as they did in their first Copa America match.
But the manager is the one who picks the team and he also tells them how to play. Dunga, because he's of course the great genius, has opted to play a more defensive counter attacking game. That's right, against the great powers of Ecuador, Dunga deems it proper that a whole Brazil should sit back and try and pick them off on the break.
It's not the Brazilian way of playing and it never should be. What Dunga is doing to Brazil is regressive. This is putting them in an awkward place in which they don't know who they are. They're imitating Europeans who play this brand of football a lot better than they do. No matter how hard they try, Brazil will never know how to execute the defensive counter-attacking system properly.
The best thing that can happen to Brazil is for them to not make it through this group stage. Then, surely, Dunga would be sacked and the federation I hope would be smart enough to realise that they must always keep their identity and play with the Joga Bonita framework. Whether they win or lose, they have to stick with their DNA and not copy someone else's. HH
