Gervinho Sends Juventus OUT of Cup, but Problems still Lie with Garcia's Boys
Roma totally and FULLY deserved to win. They completely outplayed a Juventus team who looked jaded, uninventive and plain. For the entire match, Roma controlled the game, were rarely put under pressure and were the ones who took the game to their title rivals. BUT, as much as Roma dominated, that same problem I have talked about rose again....A DAMN STRIKER.
Gervinho again came to the rescue and he is having one of his best SEASONS EVER. But as good and as dangerous as he was in the game...he is NOT a striker. So just like in so many matches, Roma did not occupy the penalty box with a strong striking presence.
This meant that all that good work on the wing by Maicon and his crosses were pretty much useless as Chiellini and the gang EASILY defended them.
Everywhere else on the Roma pitch is pretty much of high quality. They DOMINATED Juventus in midfield, and even the great Pirlo found it hard to cope as De Rossi, Totti and Strootman really got their groove going on. But for all the great approach play, without an old-skool Batistuta kind of player...it really just seemed their efforts were futile.
Roma are through. They beat what many saw would be the favorites, and they SHOULD now go on to finish off what they came so close to doing last year when their local rivals beat them.
Against the other teams, this problem of no striker will still be an issue but the other teams don't have Juve's defence. With Gervinho and Pjanic on the pitch, Roma should have more than enough with their individual superiority to win it all.
But, Garcia MUST do all he can to find a GOOD striker before January ends, if Roma are to have ANY hope whatsoever of beating Juventus to the scudetto.
