It made sense that Godin was the guy that scored the goal to give Atletico the title. It made sense because this is not a team known for attacking beauty like Barcelona and Real, but one of THE most disciplined teams you will ever see. Godin is one of the players that exemplifies that ethos.
Against their rivals who will have better players, Atletico have to play rugged, dirty and old-skool. Godin is one of those guys who has to harass, bully and make life uncomfortable for Bale, Cristiano and Benzema. Atletico can't play open, cowboy football against Real. Their game must be smart and calculated.
I had to pick out Godin over Costa because the Uruguyan embodies how Atletico became champions in Spain and made it to the Champions League final. No flash, just going down and doing the basics right, and knowing when a goal is required....someone can step up to make it happen.
If Atletico win, you can be sure that Godin was a big part of that. He is the defensive marshall and the guy who will put his family and balls in for that tackle and will make that sacrifice. And he may need to use all his powers to stop a Real team that are desperate (don't know why) to win this trophy.
