Liverpool might have to just face up to the inevitable. Raheem has made up his mind, he sees an opportunity that he does not want to miss, and Liverpool and Rodgers will be put to the test if they are to get a replacement for what has been a player who has been more than crucial for them.
Some will say that he owes Liverpool and he is too young to leave and he is still rough round the edges. That may be fair, but I look at Rodgers and Liverpool and I'm not too sure whether he will actually keep improving under him. And with Gerrard gone and the horrendous track record of Rodgers' signings, on this rare occasion I would have to side with Sterling in the fact that to further his career, he needs to hitch a ride out of Anfield.
Insult Wenger all you want, but the dude improves players. You look at what he did with Anelka, Henry, Ljungberg, Ox, Walcott...these are all marked improvements that came with his coaching. And Sterling is similar to the Juventus Henry. He is very fast with pretty good control. Wenger could make him a far more deadly winger than Walcott, which is what Arsenal have been missing with their narrow selves. If I was Raheem's agent, the future with Liverpool doesn't give me much hope and so I would have to push for that transfer to try and improve the player I am assigned to.
The only thing that would keep Sterling at Liverpool is if the damn board got involved in the transfer policy and brought in better scouts, to find quality players that aren't called Lambert or Lovren....both beginning with L. Perhaps then, Sterling could be coaxed to stay if there is a proper plan post-Gerrard. As of now, Liverpool are a million miles away from a trophy....which means it is bye-bye Raheem.
