The Fall and FALL of Parma, and Italy's Culture of Corruption

Wow. WOW. WOOOOOW.

It wasn't enough for them just to be relegated. Parma are officially bankrupt. So they have now been plunged to the very pit of professional football in Serie D.

Wow.

Again, Italy are involved in a scandal. Again, a club has had to pay a very bitter price for the illegal activities of the few. But Juventus only got taken down one league, deservedly or undeservedly so. But for Parma, it may be a decade or maybe even longer before they even come close to being back in the top league. When you consider the great players that came from the team, that's where you have to shake your head as to the incredible plunge such a famous club has taken.

Parma back in the day were like modern-era Ajax. In the sense that they were not a big club and stood in the shadow of Milan and Juventus. Despite this, they were a great team to watch based on the players they had acquired. From Cannavarro and Thuram in defence with Buffon at the back, all the way to Crespo and Veron....and remember the forgotten Chiesa? It was a great football team that produced world cup winners and legends.

Obviously, you can't expect a club like Parma to keep these players, as Ajax had learned. The difference though is Ajax kept on investing in their youth system after the legendary team of the 90's moved on, and Parma instead turned to corruption. Yes, that is unfortunately one of the most popular words in the Italian dictionary. Yet again, some dude or dudes have taken matters into their own hands and screwed over one of Italy's famous clubs. So all that
history now finds itself at the very pit of Serie D. Yep you heard that right...Serie D!

The situation with Italy and corruption gets dirtier and dirtier. I mean, players not being able to take showers? Has that how low things at the highest and most professional level of football has sank? Players not being paid a wage for weeks?

Weeks?! At a professional football club!

Parma may never return to Serie A or if they do, your teenagers would have had kids and be looking forward to your grand-kids. And that my friends is unfortunate but moreover, something needs to be done about the very poisonous trend that continues to persist with Italy and corruption. The longer it continues, the more clubs like Parma will get affected and it could lead in something far more catastrophic happening to the Italian league....
