The Idiocy of Madrid fans in treatment of Casillas

Hmm. Let's say I told you that a dude, who was captain, lead his country to a World Cup...a few years later would be whistled by his fellow countrymen and pretty much be forced to leave out the backdoor with the trash. You would call me an idiotic liar and throw me out a window. But no, this is very true. Ladies and gents, I present the odd relationship between Iker Jeremiah Casillas and the Madrid fans.

Casillas has been in Madrid, up till now, for his entire career. I remember when he was an eighteen year old, and not yet passed his driving test but with his clean-shaven adolescent face, boy was in goal for Spain's and the world's biggest and most successful team. From then on, he kept improving and getting better until he took the armband for both Madrid and Spain and was considered one of the best keepers in the world.

I want to stop here and for Madrid fans to pause and take wind of that.

At a point, the keeper that you now mock and whistle was considered one of the best keepers in the world. He helped your country win its ONLY World Cup. That alone, despite how much worse that player gets, deserves a level of respect. But with the Spanish, it's something that they lack. There is an arrogance amongst them that has never drawn me towards them.

Like Mourinho. A man who won them the league with a record number of points after so much failure, was treated like crap after one season where they won nothing...although reaching another semi-final and losing in the Copa Del Rey final. There seems to be some serious case of short-memory loss amongst Madrid fans that they need to sort out, because it's making them look like a bunch of pompous and spoiled brats.

It is beyond offensive that Casillas cannot be given a proper send-off. You almost wish ill on Madrid with De Gea telling Perez to screw himself and opting to remain with Van Gaal's project. Iker has been on a downward spiral and has made some huge mistakes. Despite that, it is still no reason or excuse to treat a legend that has been part of your club for so long in such a way.

Perhaps, that foul throw was a culmination on the costly mistakes that he had made. I don't give a snack. Iker Casillas deserved more from these "fans", and by his leaving I for one look at those in question to be an insult to football and should go jump off a high building....okay, maybe not to that extreme, but let's just say they do not belong in the realms of football that true fans like ourselves occupy.
