Joachim Löw NEEDS Replacements for Bart Simpson (Lahm) and Klose to Move Germany Forward
You know, I'm nor sure he appreciates just how influential these two German legends were for his national team. It seems to me that Löw thinks Germany's young talent, which is damn good, can be able to cope without the two because after all....they are World Cup champions. But this is a very dangerous notion to have which has befallen many previous winners who have been too arrogant after winning the greatest trophy in sport.
Klose is the leading goalscorer in World Cup history. You don't achieve that feat by being a player from the road. It's the most difficult competition to play in, and to attain such a feat over the span of twelve years shows just what a talent Germany will miss. The reality is Germany have not replaced him. They just don't have a striker with the same killer instinct as Klose with that precise eye for goal. Without such a vital weapon, Germany will struggle to win the Euros. Simple as that. You can have the most talented midfielders in the world, but they are not strikers and don't think like strikers. That was the problem that Germany ran into during the early stages of the World Cup last year.
They tried playing the false nine because Joachim believed the talents of Ozil, Gotze and Schurrle would open up most defenses, but that wasn't the case. Hence why he went old-skool and played with a striker which transformed Germany and made them unbeatable. You have Kruse who is an up and comer and of course the very underrated Muller. Kruse is just not on the level of Klose and Muller is more of a free-roaming elusive player who is best suited playing off the striker rather than being in that role himself. I was always a big fan of Mario Gomez, but the injuries got to him. He was one who, not as talented as Klose, would have fitted in well with the midfielders and given them enough of an attacking threat to be clear favorites in Euro 2016.
As for Bart Simpson. I am very happy to argue with anyone for him being on the greatest right backs in history. Both defensively and offensively, he has been amazing in his career and is actually the glue that really makes Germany function. You would that is strange as he is a right back, but it just shows how good he was, because the majority of Germany's attacks came from that right flank that he dominated. With him out of the team, Germany have lost that dimension and they just don't initiate the same kind of quality advances into the enemy area as they did when Lahm was around. That is another aspect of the team Löw needs to improve upon because in this modern game, having quality wing-backs puts you at a great advantage over your opponent.
Obviously, everyone expects Germany to be at Euro 2016 and for them to still be one of the best teams. But I may be in the minority in saying that seeing them in qualifying, I don't think I can put them as favorites. The losses of Klose and Lahm and that inability to replace them I think has made Germany weaker. They still have some of the best players in the world in the team, but talent is never enough. You need a functioning machine in order to win tournaments.
