Simple, if Martial Delivers for Manchester United...He's Worth the Money

A lot has been made about this great transfer fee for the French teenage "sensation." Everyone has an opinion about it, and that opinion has a recurring theme.

"Waste of money."

It's a lot of money. If the eventual fee that I am hearing, which seems to change depending on where you get your news, is true then it's incredibly to fork that out for an unproven teenager. He's done well for Monaco, people have spoken well of him, but is that really enough to put out that kind of money for someone who is not an established world-class talent?

For some time, I have agreed with the crowd. I could not understand how United could just spend all that money on this French kid. Then I heard about how much they offered for Muller. You know a club is drowning in currency when Rummenigge wasn't even able to utter the amount Suffice to say, United have a lot of gold coins in the war chest and they will spend it how ever they damn well please. And that is where I actually changed my view on this whole transfer when I thought about it from that standpoint, because at the end of the day, who are you to tell me how I should spend my own money?

The game has changed now. We all hope that Wenger can wake up to this fact. Having time to build up a
team just doesn't work anymore. If you are a club with the history of Man United, it's about having success right away and not three years down the line. In order to do that, you have to buy the best players. To get the best players, you need to fork out how ever much it costs in order to close that particular deal. That's how modern football now works. It's about the mighty dollar and United are looking at how City are nabbing players left right and center to not only build a strong team but a powerful squad; that in turn has put pressure on them to do their bit in getting the best players they can find.

Many would then say, they should be using all this money to get a proven world-class player instead of some foetus. My response to that would be what I mentioned previously:

Who are you to tell me how I spend my own money?

Martial is a highly regarded talent, that is of course not worth 30+ Mill. But the reality of the situation was Monaco wanted to keep a hold of him because of his potential.  They held out as much as they could but as the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase famously said...."Everyone has a price." And I think if any of us were in Monaco's position, we would very happily accept that offer that the Red Devils put down on the table.

United, already missing so many targets and without a striker, had to get someone. Unlike Arsenal who literally did...nothing, United decided to use all that surplus money from failed bids to take a chance on a player who could be a success. Nobody seems to have focused on that point on the "What if?" factor. What if Martial bangs in 25 G's this season and leads United to the title, scoring in key games? Isn't that what you pay money for?

I say that we should allow this season to unfold, before people start making bold statements. If Martial evokes the spirit of Falcao, then yes by all means call United out on wasting so much money. But if Martial can do what Falcao and Rooney failed to do and actually put that ball in that fishnet numerous times, then you have to admit it's money well spent...especially when you know they have more than enough left over to buy some bread and 7-Up if need be.
