How much will Turan Improve Barcelona?
I don't believe that Turan actually made the move. It's not as if Barcelona were desperate for talent as they languished in the darker realms of the relegation zone. This is a team that won the treble, scoring an insane amount of goals. But, we are in modern football and if a club has the clout and the money, they can get whoever they want.
Arda Turan, was without a doubt the best player for Atletico, who I'd put just ahead of Godin. His great ability on the ball and ability to make plays from tight position brought the guile and craft to the physical nature of Atletico. He made them good to watch and was the creative element of the entire team with most of the chances they created coming through him. So you can imagine how big of a loss it would be to lose a player of his calibre.
The main reason I can think of Enrique wanting to bring in Turan, is to relieve the pressure of an ageing Iniesta and get more rotation in the squad. I was amazed that Iniesta put in the amount of minutes he was able to last season and play so well. But with every year that comes round, those extremely talented feet gain more strain and it asks a lot for him to play even seventy-five minutes. That's where you boy Turan comes in.
His primary job will be to work in tandem with the front three and get into the Barcelona psychology of football which is vastly different to Atletico's. That is the key. Enrique will want Turan to bring in his own unique quality to vary how Barcelona play so they aren't too obvious, but you can't deny that the success of the team comes through the trio. The way in which Iniesta was able to connect with them as well as Rakitic was what made them so powerful.
I don't think Turan will imrpove them that much as I'm not entirely convinced it's the right fit and he's the kind of player for this Barcelona team. Possession is very much the name of the game although they are less anal about it as they were under Pep. Turan I think is the kind of guy who would flourish in a Juventus or even Real Madrid system where the ball is recycled quickly and there are less passes being made. But hey, I am more than happy to be proven wrong. Although if I am, I don't think any other team out there has a chance of stopping them.
