Is it already over for Dortmund in the Bundesliga?
Yes, it's only early days. It is only ONE loss. But as I was watching Dortmund do EVERYTHING they could to unlock the bolted Monchengladbach door, I had a thought to myself. If Goetze was still in this team...or even Kagawa....surely they would have put this match to bed.
It was just ONE crazy moment from Hummels, which won't put him in Low's good books that resulted in Dortmund being put to the blade. They honestly did not deserve to lose, but the league table and mathematics never lie. They are now behind Bayern, and psychologically it could harm them having to now catch up with a near, INVINCIBLE team. Let's be very real here, Bayern are not going to be dropping many points...it just won't happen.
Pep is on a mission to prove that Barcelona was not just a one-off. People will say, like Ibra, that he is only taking over a Heynckes team that OBLITERATED all in their path. Maybe so. But he is making them play his way, and there are always new records to be broken. Pep will know the challenge of Dortmund as the experience with the Super Cup defeat portrayed. So he will know that consistency is key, as well as defeating them when the two of them face-off in November.
My money is still on Bayern, but my heart is with Dortmund. I would love for the young guns to surprise everyone and take back the title. Their team is still very talented and play the most exciting football. But if I am using my head, I just look at what Pep has achieved, albeit with the help of Messi. I see that but I also see THE most COMPLETE squad there is in the whole of club football. That right there is how you win leagues, and that may prove to be the real difference when things get tight, and those fine details are all so important.
But in football....anything can happen....
