Will Arsenal's Nearly Man come to haunt them at Emirates tonight?
They were close, very close. The boy from Argentina could have been wearing an Arsenal jersey leading the line against a Napoli team that would have been without a replacement for Cavani. Somehow, Wenger let it slip...or perhaps he has faith that Giroud is the return of Henry in a different guise. Yeah...
But the reality is Higuain went to Naples, has been instrumental in them doing so well so far and he may be the decisive instrument that may lead to victory for the boys in light blue. However, I really want to investigate whether in fact Arsenal really lost out big time on NOT getting Higuain.
So once upon a time there were two strikers at Madrid. One missed a lot, but scored quite a few, the other one missed a lot....and didn't do much else. The latter is still there not doing much and the former has moved to Napoli where he is the main man, and is benefiting from it. Now, if Higuain was in Arsenal it would have been a truly USEFUL signing. You can NEVER have too many strikers. Look at Juventus and Man City. Higuain would have been a nice alternative to Giroud and the Pod. Gonzalo is your typical old-skool striker who is direct and just does things the bare-bones way. For Arsenal and Wenger, it would have been a great asset to have. And that's about it....
Oh, and he can also receive the ball at his feet and control it, and move with it. Giroud?
But relax, Arsenal did not lose out on Lewandowski or Gomez, both of whom I think of very highly. What they lost out on is having options. If a defence have figured out Giroud, bringing on Higuain would lead to something fresh and perhaps the very much needed goal. Options.
Tonight, Arsenal will face their toughest test. Higuain will be on the prowl and will be one of the danger men. If he ends up getting a hat-trick, in the back of many Gunners fans' minds, they may rue Wenger not doing enough to secure that cold-blooded striker that Arsenal need to REALLY be a serious proposition this season.
