Soccer Profile - Can Van Persie Finally take Holland to Football's Zenith?

He is the all time scorer. He is now the main man. He is Holland's KEY component if they are to finally take the crown. Yep, Holland have NEVER won the World Cup. THREE times in the final, but no cigar or cigarette. But I'd like to give you a little brain twister. In the World Cup that Holland were last in, were they reached the final....how many goals did Van Persie score? Hmm....


Holland reached football's great final without Van Persie on fire. I don't think he managed a goal in the knockout stage. So imagine if Van Persie was playing like this at that World Cup...and if that one-on-one fell to him rather than Arjen. It may have been a whole different story for the boys in the orange. But, what should have been RVP's tournament, turned into a forgettable one. And the less we say about the Euros, the better.

I was shocked to find RVP is 30....so he will be going on to 31 at the next World Cup.

He is getting "older", but age is only a number. Van Persie is right now at his most lethal, and he knows that he is due THAT tournament for Holland. After so many failed attempts, he will know that he needs to at LEAST put in a great performance and PROVE to myself that he deserves to start ahead of Huntelaar. Because, many thought that during the Euros where Van Persie missed for fun, Huntelaar ought to have been given the chance to show what he can do. I would have pulled Van Persie off at half time in that Germany game, but the coach stuck with him and got rightfully thrown out the back door.

Can Holland win in Brazil?

They can, but I don't think they will. I look at Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Spain, Germany, and perhaps what Ivory Coast could finally do with their talented group of players. Those are the ones I look at. But I will tell you this...Van Persie has been the main man in two tournaments for Holland and has played nowhere near his potential. Now, if he is his lethal self in a tournament, then you know what....RVP could do what Cruyff never could and bring back the football golden crown for the Oranje.
