The Curious Case of Adnan Januzaj....and Wilshere about representing English Football
I could not believe it. I really could not believe England would actually try and go for the star kid after ONE GREAT MATCH....against Sunderland. I have already talked ad nauseam about how ridiculous it is to call Januzaj a star after one game and how over-excited people are getting. He has raw natural talent and a dribble to his game, WHICH I LOVE. But, let's see MORE of him before proclaiming him to be the next great thing.
Now, with regards to England recruiting players of another country...this is a new low. Have the FA been on the streets? Maybe their suits or nice Gucci shoes would get soiled by visiting the various cages where the raw skill of Wilshere would have been honed, I am sure. It is there that they will find the future of football...which was Joe Cole, but that's ANOTHER ISSUE. But, talking of Jacky Wilshere...
He has come out and said that Januzaj should NOT represent England...because...wait for it....he is not English.
And cue the impassioned responses and comparing Wilshere to a BNP spokesman.
People bring the Mo Farah example, and I am happy with that. But, I do believe Mo had been living in England for a long time and when he talks, how he lives and his demeanor is that of a Brit, but with Somalian roots.
Januzaj has said he would prefer Albania, and at BEST, he is UNDECIDED. To now try and pry him to England, like a club, is the real problem and I support Wilshere on this.
It is just sad to focus on getting this kid when there are so many English kids that are out there on the street who I believe are as good or better than the kid from Albania.
In a World Cup, I would like to see countries being represented by footballers of THAT country. That is the beauty of the tournament. It's about the Brazilian view of football against the Italian view...that's what makes it interesting. If we have Nigerians playing for England, and Dutch for Argentina...the POINT of the World Cup gets lost.
So before you call Wilshere a nationalistic UKIP fanatic....THINK first....just think
