Bale covered up AVB's shortcomings
I saw Spurs play today against Everton, as well as other times this season. The team in white now have to live a life without their Welsh knight. Everyone assumed that five quality players would appease the hurt of losing the star man. But I think people forgot one little detail....the DAMN GUY WHO MANAGES THE TEAM.
Sorry, AVB is not that great a coach. As I watched Spurs today, I saw a team without any flow, or rhythm to their play. It was all predictable, slow, sluggish and void of imagination. This was a match in which Bale would take the ball and hit a smacker from forty yards to score. But, Bale is not there anymore and all eyes are on AVB to forge a team that can still be as entertaining as they were last season.
I did not like hearing that the Spurs fans were giving their team a hard time at home. I did not watch the match but MY LORD, if they played like they did against Everton in that match, I would boo them as well. Because it's not a case of getting the team to gel...it's a case of the tactics being too stale and NOT utilizing the striker that they have.
Let me confess....I DESPISE THE ONE STRIKER FORMATION. I hate it and I wish it was a crime to ever play it. But, fair enough, let teams use it. If you DO use it, surely you ought to try and get the striker involved as much as possible? And surely, there is no point crossing the ball into the box when Soldado, not known for being prolific with his head, is the LONE man in the box?
But AVB continues to play this way and Soldado continues to be frustrated. I used to be hard on him, but I feel his pain. The team are not playing to his strengths. The ball is not being kept on the floor and the midfielders are not looking at the runs he is making. It's all very labored with the ball hiked over to the wingers to try and get something done.
Tottenham are NOT winning the league. That's the first thing. Second, I am not sure I can give them fourth. Unless AVB changes up the tactics, they will continue to take draws whilst other teams get their wins. Simple mathematics people.
Everyone should now stand and take notice of just what Gareth Bale did for this team. I FULLY support his efforts in forcing a move to Madrid, and I wish him the best of luck. As far as Spurs are concerned....I am not seeing a very exciting team here. The players are there and despite the new arrivals, Aaron Lennon is a player I like A LOT, and he deserves to be used more at an ATTACKING winger that drives INTO the box.
Did someone say 'Arry?
