Mkhitaryan and Dortmund answer the call and DELIVER!!!
This was DO OR GET THE HELL OUT! This was it. Dortmund had to respond. Anything short of a proper response would have meant their season being OVER. Bundesliga, German Cup, Champions League, Daffy Duck Cup...all GONE. Well, seem that Dortmund grew a pair of nuts and delivered a great performance to put Napoli to the sword. As for Mkhitaryan, without scoring, he did a lot to show why he can start allowing the fans to think about life after Gotze.
Klopp would have had the teamtalk to end all teamtalks. It was a season defining match and Dortmund had to come out all guns blazing, which they normally do, and FINISH...which they normally don't.
In the end, Dortmund missed some CRUCIAL opportunities, but they managed to get three goals which should have been more and have now gotten their sexy back.
It was great seeing how freely Dortmund moved the ball. Whenever Napoli were foolish enough to give them space, they exploited and they punished. The passes were crisp, the runs were timed perfectly. Sometimes, it was TOO many passes but in the end, Dortmund finally remembered how to put the ball in the net. I just hope that Klopp ties their legs to a metal pole and forces them to work even more on finishing. Some of the chances that were missed had me screaming my face off.
Mister Kuba is a player who I can't quite figure out. Sometimes he looks pretty good, other times he looks limited. He really is not that great a player, but he is reliable and efficient.
Tonight though, he had to have given one of his best performances. The ways in which he cut across diagonally and the key balls that he played through to create chances really stood out. He seemed to realize the gravity of the situation and took it upon himself to impose a more attacking edge to his game. His goal was very well deserved for the work and quality that he put in against Napoli. If he can continue playing like this, then Dortmund can maybe put up some pressure against Bayern in the league...maybe.
I am so glad to really see Mkhitaryan come out of his shell even more. The one run he had where three Napoli defenders could not stop him was one that stood out. The balance and control he had was perfect, but he needed more impetus with his left foot to put it away. That really is what is missing. He gets in too many dangerous areas and must therefore start putting in some goals. He can really become goal-getter and IF he starts scoring, then trust me, Dortmund will again be the favorites to win this Champions League. With Aubameyang showing again his natural goalscoring ability with a great chipped finish, and with HOPES that Lewandowski can remember how to score again...there just might be some life in Klopp's soldiers.
