Rooney and Kagawa show United Counter Power against Leverkusen...but not ALL is Well
After that VERY disappointing draw, United really came up with a great reaction going AWAY to Bundesliga's second placed side, and putting FIVE goals past them. Mostly thanks to great counter attacking prowess lead by Rooney and Kagawa who showed how dangerous United can be on attack. So I guess you want me to proclaim them as a threat? No, they are not, and Leverkusen need to REALLY look at themselves in the mirror after the defensive horror show. Jeez....
Leverkusen had a lot of chances to CREATE chances, but an inability to use the ball well and bad passes and wrong choice of balls ended up with United finding it easy to fend off those attacks.
As for the defence, I understand that you may be playing at home and need to attack, but to give SO MUCH SPACE to a team like United is crazy.
Whenever Rooney and Kagawa were on the ball, they looked so dangerous as they were allowed to freely pick their pass and run with the ball. It's just madness to play so open against a team that obviously have better players than yours.
I keep saying it. Each time Kagawa plays for United, whether he makes a mistake or not, the team plays better and looks far more dangerous and exciting. He frees up everyone and really makes United one of the most potent counter-attacking units. The way he finds space and the CHOICE of passes he makes allows for United to be a real force when they head forward. Will Moyes take heed and listen and always start him? Most likely not, and he will most likely end up benching him again.
Leverkusen threatened that defence and before the first goal, I thought they would be the ones to score as they looked more likely. Against Juventus or Bayern or Madrid, United would concede AT LEAST three. The defence just don't look as water-tight as it has been. That is why this result means nothing to me. Against a better team, United will get beat and I expect them to get knocked out once the next stage begins. The only way they can go far is by showing me that the defence are serious and resolute and Kagawa PLAYS. Don't talk to me about Giggs, who is on drugs, or anyone else. Kagawa along with Rooney are the creative heartbeats of the team and United NEED Van Persie. They did not need him tonight, but if they get Bayern or Madrid....they will NEED him on that pitch, you can bet your ass TWICE on that.
