Can the Diego The Drug Kingpin Simeone Shock everyone and Win La Liga with Atletico?
La Liga is meant to be a two horse race. With Rangers being relegated, La Liga was supposed to be the Scottish league lead by Barcelona and Madrid. With their cash, candy and assets, no other team could even DREAM of competing with them. The others just don't have the players, or the sweets to spend on the liquorice. Well, enter the Druglord Diego Simeone. Dressed all in black and looking even scarier now than in his days playing, he has lead Atletico to being within level on points with Barcelona. So is it right for the other side of Madrid to dream of the La Liga crown?
All the talk has been about the Brazilian traitor, Costa. He's been the leading goalscorer and has been the main reason Atletico have been picking up so many wins.
I saw one of his goals which was something only a man of Brazilian blood could pull off. If he can be kept sharp and hungry throughout this season, then Atletico have an amazing chance of doing the impossible by upsetting the odds.
I've always believed in strikers and any team that has a truly great finisher who can finish from ANYWHERE on the pitch, will be a serious threat in a league campaign. Don't give me these fake number nine bullshit, I WANT A DAMN STRIKER WHOSE ONLY JOB IS TO SCORE GOALS AND NOTHING ELSE.
You also have Arda Turan who is a player that has always been good. Just like Ozil, he has that bit of Turkish magic and technique that really makes him stand out and is a CREATOR, which every single team needs. What good is a striker without having the man to give him that perfect pass?
Diego Simeone will need him to CONSISTENTLY run that midfield and provide for Costa and Villa if Atletico are to keep up the pressure with Barcelona and compete with the Bale and Cristiano party of their rivals.
I really like this guy, and think that he can be an extremely important cog in this Atletico wheel as they try and get their domestic crown and knock on a few doors of the Champions League.
Whatever happens, one must applaud what Diego has done. Atletico have had quite an amazing season and perform WELL ABOVE their capabilities. They are already easily into the next round of the Champions League, and even though I don't think they will last the distance, they have made what was once a very boring and predictable league, rather exciting to watch right now.
