The Forgotten Man - Why do People not give Robben Hood the Credit He Deserves?
I don't understand it. As I read down the shortlist, I was shaking my head. For the life of me, I can't understand what either Messi or Cristiano are doing on that list. Seems that perhaps there is a new amnesia disease going round now. The incredible season and year that Bayern had has not been taken into account as well as what Robben Hood has done. For BOTH, Bayern and Holland, he is has been sensational and proving again why he is one of the best footballers in the world. So why is there no love or respect for this man's efforts?
Robben was not only a consistent and HIGHLY important component in the Heynckes machine, being amongst the goals and plays during Bayern's season...but he did what I thought at the very LEAST gets you on the shortlist. He showed UP when his team needed him.
In the semi-final of the SECOND leg, with many believing in another Nou Camp miracle, Robben scored one of his trademark goals that really put the match to sleep and sent them on their way to the final. He had already scored in the first leg, but it was that goal at the Nou Camp that was the Dutch dagger to the hearts of the Spanish champions. Then, it was onto the GRAND final itself...
After Robben had missed a lot of chances in the first half, everyone thought it would again be Robben the Choke. Then we saw what REAL winners do and players with CHARACTER can achieve. He kept on going, and with an ASSIST to Mandzukic, it was all setup for him to finally show why it was his year. With a nice backheel from Ribery, Robben squeezed through the Dortmund sandwich and finished it off just before Weidenfeller could get to him. That was the icing on the cake and after that, I believed that there could be NO DOUBT whatsoever in Robben being on that shortlist.
It makes football look really bad. To not take into account or acknowledge what an INDIVIDUAL has done in a season, as well as coming up when it mattered just shows the skewered and messed up criteria that those clowns at FIFA use to put guys in that shortlist. At the end of the day, the way I look at it, just like the Oscars...why do I need some old men in suits telling me what is good and what isn't? I can make up my own mind for myself.
