I expected this to be a much tighter game...a closer game. These were the two top teams and I thought Roma would be able to go out there and really give Juventus a good game. It's pretty much simple what actually happened...PIRLO happened. My analysis and thoughts were made in thinking Pirlo was still injured. With the maestro on the field, and Roma STILL with no striker or strikers, this scoreline is really not that surprising.
When you look at the game against Fiorentina that Juventus lost, the ONE man that really took them down was Rossi, who was a striker. In order to beat Juventus or cause them problems, you MUST have a striker or strikers who can really test Bonucci and Barzagli. Without that threat, it is VERY hard to score against Juventus and break them down. Conte is a G when it comes to setting up a defence, and Roma just had no solution as to how to create chances. Their main attacking threat, Gervinho, was succumbed and subdued and made into an Ivorian sandwich by Chiellini and the gang. Tactically, Garcia did not have a strategy to exploit Juventus. He relied too much on his midfielders and Conte had done his preparations and nullified any kind of threat they could pose in an attacking threat.
The midfield was the important battle and as hard as De Rossi and Totti tried to hold down the fort, Pirlo and his comrades of Vidal and Pogba just had that extra firepower and really took hold of things in the middle. They had a better attacking impetus to them, and they closed down and defended well when they had to.
Even Asamoah who I am not a big fan of, had a VERY good game, performing a very nice skill even. This was just a totalized statement by Juventus to show that they are the true kings of Italy and I think that it's pretty much over. This was the match where Roma could show me that they could have something to say in the league. The way in which they were so comfortably beating just showed the gulf in class that STILL exists between Juventus and the rest. It's just such a shame that Juventus somehow fucked up that Galatasaray match as it would have been amazing to see how they would have done against Chelsea...and how far they would have gone.
Roma have a chance as do Napoli. Don't you DARE mention the name of that team that play in dark red and black. Yes, Napoli and Roma will always have a chance, but to be BRUTALLY realistic....I think we are seeing history in the making and Conte going down in folklore as he is set to lead Juventus to a THIRD straight scudetto victory.
