One of THE big exclusions is Landon Donovan not getting picked for the final roster of the World Cup. That is a huge move by Klinsmann, and it may come back to bite him.
USA with or without Donovan are not coming out of the group. I expect them to finish bottom as it's between three teams. But, just like in 2002, this is football and shocks can happen. Donovan made his name when USA shocked the world back in Japan and Korea. This is a guy who has been American's premier performers in each game, and I think that he is one of those guys that is the first on the teamsheet.
I look at that final roster for USA, and I don't see anyone of any true significance. Just a bunch of dudes slapped together. That is a team in NEED of an experienced head to help guide them. Even if Klinsmann is thinking about the future, you have to surround those young heads with a veteran who has been around the block, and knows what it means to be on football's greatest stage.
It's a shock and many people will be in disbelief. But what if Klinsmann sees something in his team that others do not, and perhaps he can beat his apprentice, show up the one-man team of Portugal with Moutinho, and take down the Western African boys.
Football...anything can happen.
