LUCA TONI MAY BE 36...BUT GOALS ARE GOALS, PRANDELLI OUGHT TO HAVE TAKEN HIM

Yes, I know....he's THIRTY-SIX years of age. He ain't young...I do get that. But if you are scoring goals and you are a striker, then I like you. And oh, ESPECIALLY if you are bringing in experience and can use that to guide Balotelli, Rossi and others...that can't be a bad thing? There IS an argument for Prandelli to have taken Toni.

There are enough obvious reasons not to take Luca Toni.

- Too Old

- Part of the "old" Italy

- Not the type of Striker for Prandelli's team

Blah, blah, blah and THREE cats. I get it, I understand. But this is a World Cup and I may have to school Prandelli a little bit by telling him that in a SQUAD, you need as many different players as possible to make up your team. DIFFERENT is the buzzword here. Is Balotelli going to be amazing every match? Will Rossi be fit enough? Are Destro or Immobile up to the task of a World Cup?

Toni made a very good point by saying it's not about the style of play that you have at a World Cup which will determine whether you win or not. The character and mentality of the team is CRUCIAL. What has made Italy win FOUR trophies is their MENTAL FORTITUDE. They had no business winning in 1982, nor did they in 2006. You need some of those old-skool guys just to know what it means to GET. THAT. GOAL. And if there is one country that respects the "elderly" figure...it is Italy.

TAKE TONI. Don't start him....JUST TAKE HIM. There may come a game where Prandelli may regret not having a target-man to bring on.
