The Americans are showing they're not just here to dine on corn dogs and have a party. In the two matches, it's a new American under Klinsmann with organised football(not soccer) that's pragmatic and economical. It SHOULD be two wins and six points, but that one defensive lapse is ALL it takes.
Portugal suck. Need to just get that out there. This team do NOT deserve to be anywhere near a second round match. It's also a problem when you play a one-man strategy, with that one man not having much ability ON the ball. This was a match the US should have won, and if they kept with their strategy of continuing to play football and not fall in defence, I could easily seen another goal.
Bradley again showed he IS one the most underrated midfielders at this World Cup. I don't give a CRAP if he plays for Toronto and fights bears in the evening. He has held that midfield for America superbly, knowing when to release the ball and more times than not, picking out the right pass.
Again, apart from the early Cameron mistake, the defence was imperious. Does help that Portugal are useless in attack, but the ALLEGED best player in the world was very easily handled and hardly threatened. But he did have his chances which he wasted. Go watch the tape....
USA have to regroup, after allowing Varela to sneak in behind them in the final minute from a great Cristiano cross. Dempsey should have been the match-winner, but goals win you games...not chances. USA havd far too many good opportunities that they spurned, allowing Portgual to still be in the game when they should have been put away. But it's all in their hands with either a draw or a win against Germany being enough. And as for Portugal, I'm afraid it might all be over.
