TONI KROOS IS NOW A MADRID PLAYER....MY MAN PEP...WAS THIS THE RIGHT MOVE?
A lot of people thought the blonde passing expert would be a Bayern man for all his career. Just like Bart Simpson. They said he would never leave. After all...HE IS ONE OF BAYERN'S best midfield players. But it seems there is always a price. Toni Kroos, maybe motivated by money or the grand stage of Madrid, took his bags and left Munich. Leaves one to wonder if Pep could have done more to hold onto one of his best and most important players...
It's a GREAT signing for Madrid. I've been watching Toni progress and seeing how he has grown into an ELITE midfielder. That was crystalized by how he dominated the midfield for Germany at the World Cup and showed millions that there are not many players better in his position.
Madrid have brought in support for Modric but even Luka will have to admit that his new midfield partner is better than him. When you think of NOT losing the ball, passing with both feet, the RANGE of passing, finding forward passes and as he showed against Brazil...his shooting technique is one of the best out there. Real have only gone and gotten stronger with Barcelona having to make some moves to respond. Oh, and I hear some Colombian kid who scored six g's might be sipping on some Spanish pie as well.
Where did it all go wrong for Pep and Kroos? SOMETHING went wrong. Don't give me that jive of Kroos moving to win trophies. Or to a bigger club. Bayern recently won the treble and the DOUBLE last season...also getting to the Champions League semi-final.
If I am to give my five cents, I just think Pep is grooming Thiago to take over that position and perhaps has other players in mind. You look at the times he subbed off Kroos, it didn't make sense. If you then look at how well he has played for Bayern, the fact that he is the heir to Bastian and is one of the best central midfielders in the world, it just doesn't make sense.
But who wants to inherit someone else's baggage? Pep is trying to come out of the great German treble shadow of Heynckes. Perhaps, by dispatching of Kroos and Mandzukic, two VITAL cogs in Heynckes's machine, and bringing in his own players with his blend of that tic to the tac, then he can prove he can take Bayern to the next level. But...erm...not sure how you get better than what they did to Barcelona without ANY use of lubricant whatsoever.
Toni is now a Madrid player. His mission is simple....to help Madrid win it ALL next season. There is no other directive. Madrid can see Barcelona are on the slide, and by strengthening the midfield and that defense, it will only lead to more domination.
What Kroos can give Madrid is that consistency. Real will always bring the heat in the Champions League and the Copa Del Rey. They are the kind of team more suited to that knockout do-or-die kind of match. But when having to go away at Levante at nine at night, when you could be smoking and playing cards in a casino, it takes that consistent gene to kick in.
In those kinds of matches, control is key. If you are losing the game or clinging onto a victory, KEEPING HOLD OF THE BALL IS VITAL. That is why Kroos will be so important. He's the guy that can find the right pass all the time and can take pressure of them if the game is slipping from them and they need to calm down the home crowd.
But I want to know is how Pep is going to replace Toni.....
