Does anyone actually give a shit about this award now? The ballon d'or. The award that awards the best footballer on the planet. I suppose i used to care about this before but only up to a degree. It was not something i would watch and wait to be surprised like the Oscars, because there was no surprise.....
Back in the day, there was never a debate who the best footballer was. It was so clear that the damn award was a freaking formality. So why just watch Figo or Ronaldo go and take their award when you knew all year they were the best?
The game is different now. Zidane in 2006 signalled the end of the lone superstar. You now have to have a proper team and the game is more tactical than ever. Tactics that are used to pimp out the SUPERSTAR. So to ask me who is the best footballer right now....i honestly do not know. It could be anybody and it just wouldnt matter because there is no

Robben is a killer and either he or the underrated Bart Simpson aka Lahm, should win it. Because it seems the World Cup is not even being a factor. If it was, then Neuer, Rbben and Lahm should battle it out,
Have we stooped so low that scoring penalties and tap-ins equate to being the best footballer? I thought the award eas given to the player who portrayed an element of incredible skill that incorporated all aspects of football. Control, scoring, passing, dribbling, technique and big-game appearance. That last thing is why Cristiano is not even a consideration for me. Great goalscorer, not a great player.
