Is the Pressure Getting to Chelsea?
Pressure is not really something to associate with the Chosen One. It's for the little guys. The frail ones. And with the experience Chelsea have...pressure should not apply.
But a team like Chelsea who struggle to beat Hull City are a team that are feeling the nerves with that title in sight.
Every effect has a cause. That's just how the world works. The cause for the pressure was the PSG game. Being a man up at HOME, is something you would bet your grandma's savings on for Chelsea to win. By the very fact they lost after leading in extra time, was a serious psychological blow.
Ever since then, Chelsea have questioned themselves. No longer do you see that swagger they had earlier in the season where that Spanish dude called Cesc was an assisting machine. Now, it's all hands on deck as they are trying to grind out the results to keep City and yes, Arsenal, at arm's length.
My cash is on Chelsea for the title, but I look at the teams they have and how they are playing and
knowing how a mental state can affect one self, and there are small doubts. It wasn't the Burnley draw, but that game coupled with the Hull one have me thinking there could maybe be a few draws a loss and then this might be a last day title decider.
But relax. Don't want to make all those Chelsea fans cry. This IS Mourinho we are talking about here, one of THE great motivators the game has seen. He knows Chelsea are not flowing, and unlike Wenger, Jose knows how to win ugly. That is why this title is still in Chelsea's paws. Both City and Arsenal win mostly by playing lovely flowing football. But Mourinho can win either by entertaining or taking it down to the streets in a 1-0 escape.
Let's see what happens. The title is not decided yet, but Chelsea need two or three big wins to get the confidence back. If not, and the matches are tight, then it will be a question of if the players have the cojones and fortitude to do whatever is necessary to win. Because at the end of the day....it's not how it's done, it's whether it is done or not.
