Salah and Fiorentina Swipe Juventus and LOOK GOOD
You can never really tell if Juventus take the cup seriously, the are cursed or something about the competition does not bring out their CLASSIC nut and bolts performance that make them pretty much unbeatable in the league.
But this is a Fiorentina team that look pretty damn tasty. And the man from the land of the pyramids has been more than a revelation, he is already a STAR player for the dudes that don the purple armor.
Watching Fiorentina last season with Cuadrado, they seemed like a team that SEEMED to be entertaining but there was no real identity. Just a few quality players, but not enough for them to win any kind of trophy. But enter the man Salah, and Montella now has a player to build the team around and play through.
Juventus just did not pay enough attention or perhaps any sort of respect to him. The first goal he scored is a RIDICULOUS goal for any professional team to concede. It's something you would see in a school game not in an Italian Cup game. But it happened and nobody can ignore the incredible impact that Salah has made and what it can do to a player if you let him express himself and give him freedom. It does not occur with every player though, but particularly Salah and Schurrle are two players who NEED to be given the keys to the ballroom and must be allowed to dance freely with the birds and glasses of wine.
Looking at Fiorentina, as long as Salah and Gomes can be kept fit and if Rossi can come back, this is one of the more interesting attacking teams out there. There is enough discipline in defence, and totally forgot Micah Richards was there and he is actually looking petty good and was always a pretty solid defender. Just odd seeing him in Italy.....
Allegri really has to blame himself for Juventus losing this match. There needed to be more focus on Salah, not because he is Messi or Robben, but what confidence can do to any player. When a player is on a great goalscoring run, you need to do all you can to bring them back down to Earth by giving them a tough marking game and making their ninety minutes or less a living hell. But Allegri allowed Fiorentina to play, pick their passes and gave way too much space to Salah who showed that if given the chance, he has an excellent left foot and if that doesn't work....he can run almost half the length of the pitch and put the ball in the far top corner.
As briefly discussed on the hangout, I expect Fiorentina to manhandle Roma with their false-nine nonsense. And looking at the other teams in the UEFA Cup, there is no reason why Fiorentina can't bring that cup back to their cribb....but this is only if ALL of their soldiers are fit. If that is the case, Montella will not require too much tactical work to win this competition. There is no Mourinho or Chelsea...so no extra pre-game planning with thought and care is needed.
It's just refreshing though seeing a really exciting player outside of the norm that we see. The thing I
like about Salah is how he is always looking for that pass in the middle and waiting for the return to try and open up that booty. There is a very forward-thinking and brave way in which he plays the game that is constantly trying to make things happen, which is similar to how the Egyptians played during their dominance of the Nations Cup for all those years.
Now....will My Boy call him back after the loan?
If he does....will he have the same effect with a Chelsea team that play in a totally different way?
