Luka Jeremiah Modric MATTERS. And Madrid better recognise *finger snap* and get him fit and ready as soon as possible.
Maybe I am biased because my primary position has always been central midfield. And it IS the toughest position to play and it is the very heart and soul of every football team. So if you don't have that right, then your boys are screwed.
What Modric gives Madrid is the ability to launch attacks and bringing the three headed wolf of Cristiano, Bale and Benzema into the game. He knows how to find space, and when to run the ball and when to release it. Without him, a lot has been put on Kroos's shoulders who is still in his first season and figuring out the telepathy that Modric already has with the others.
When you look at Madrid's Champions League winning run, it wasn't about Cristiano's goals only as some would have you believe. A key aspect was the midfield work that Modric did. Because he was the glue. The guy that connected defence and attack. Without him, Madrid would not have won the Champions League.
Look at the Atletico game. Madrid got bent over and dragged half-naked across sandpaper. But if Modric would have been in that game, he would have brought in Bale and Cristiano. Because those two had probably their worst game of their careers. You need to understand that as attacking wingers, they are reliant on the service of the midfield. No Modric, no service, no cheddar.
Luka coming back will be huge for Madrid as there is a chance to claim back the Liga....and history beckons if they can defend their CL crown. They CANNOT do it without Modric.
