So yet again, a club's youth system produces a really good footballer and yet again, that player is whisked away by the big club because of their cash and their name.
Depay and PSV have taken home the gold in the Dutch League, and Memphis looks destined to join the man who coached him at the World Cup. For United, it is a very good purchase and a player who can link up really well with Mata, both who have strong footballing brains.
Errr...as far as what chance Liverpool and Spurs have? SLIM at best. Because...why would you choose to play under Rodgers or Pocchettino over a veteran? And Man United are heading back to the Champions League, and it IS Man U.....deal with it.
Depay is an ATTACKING midfielder. I told y'all, I only need to see a player for one match to see what they are about. Depay runs with the ball, and shoots. You look at United's match yesterday against Chelsea, Depay would have been perfect for that game, as he would have drove forward and shot.
And United are not Arsenal who have an army of midfielders. They need Depay, because there is no player like him. Fellaini is a hustler, Carrick is a passer, Mata is more of a ball-playing playmaker. But there is no midfielder who can run with the ball and make space for their shot. Against super-defensive teams....a vital asset to have.
Just sad teams like Ajax and PSV cannot keep the players they produce. Perhaps there will again come a time when two teams in a Champions League final have players who all came from their own academies.
