Huge blow. To lose your best central midfielder is one of the biggest bodyblows to any football team. It is your core and the link between defence and attack. To lose that jewel, greatly affects how your team can function.
Modric being out NOW, is the worst thing for Madrid. It bloody well sucks, because don't you dare get it twisted, Luka is just as important as Cristiano to Madrid. And going up against their great rivals in the CL and stopping their even greater rivals from getting the treble, you need all your soldiers. If Nacho was out then fine, but Rich?!!
Kroos is a great midfielder, but a different sort to Mod. Toni is an excellent passer of the ball, but Luka can run with it, find space and drive forward to put opposition people out of their place. You could see how different Madrid looked against Atletico with Modric in there. He just has more of a proactive and forward-thinking flow to his game than Kroos.
Madrid can survive but just won't be as strong as they normally are. Fortunately for these billionaires, James is there, and he will need to do a similar job to Kroos. His passing and vision is not on the same level as the Mod, but he is a better and more potent and dangerous attacker than him. But the problem of not being resolute in the middle will harm Madrid.
It all falls on Kroos to raise his game and have a greater influence on the game. Demand the ball, and offload it to the wing quickly, but also try and launch attacks himself by trying to goad players out of position. Whether he can do it, I don't know but if Madrid are to beat Atletico and try and win the league, they will need to hope Cristiano can conjure up some g's from thin air. Which won't be a problem since he is the best player in the world. So there's nothing to cry about....juju man!
